Sierra grew up in the Sierra Nevada foothills and moved from the Central Valley to the Bay Area 14 years ago. Her educational background is rooted in biology and she has found herself working in a variety of educational settings, including residential outdoor education and garden education. Most recently, she spent the past three years teaching freshmen at Oakland Technical High School, fostering a deep understanding of teaching all kinds of students.

When not teaching, Sierra is likely outside riding her bicycle or running, baking and eating bread, or reading about the food system. She believes one should never leave the house without a snack.
