Rolando Crisostomo was born in Manila, Philippines and raised in Daly City, California. As the first in his family to attend and graduate from college, he is deeply committed to helping young people navigate their college journey. He studied politics and pre-law at Dominican University, hoping to pursue law school one day. However, inspired by his work-study job as a student ambassador in the admissions office, he eventually followed a successful career in college admissions/counseling.
After nine years of working in college admissions at several universities in the Bay Area and in Honolulu, Hawai’i, he decided to switch to the other side of the desk and work as a college counselor in independent schools. Before coming to Sonoma Academy, he served as the Director of College Counseling at Woodside Priory, a boarding school in Portola Valley, CA.
Rolando is passionate about celebrating the unique characteristics of each student he counsels while inspiring them to dream big. He mentors other college counselors who are new in the profession and volunteers his time working with first-gen students in local public high schools and community-based organizations. Outside of work, Rolando enjoys traveling and visiting Wine Country with his wife who is a Montessori teacher, spending quality time with his nieces and nephews (ages eight to 21), and watching his father's band, Good Reasons, play in local venues.
