When asked for a fact that people might not know about her, Kim Eber has the perfect reply: “I was briefly in the Guinness Book of World Records for being the youngest female to get a hole in one!” But that’s not the only thing that makes her special—Kim’s experience, warmth, and intelligence have endeared her to the Sonoma Academy community from the minute she joined the staff in 2018.
Kim attended college at the University of North Carolina, where she played golf and majored in Sports Broadcasting. “About halfway through the program, I knew my career would have to shift course,” she says. “I got camera shy! So I launched into sports marketing, instead.” After working in that field for three years, Kim transitioned to sales, where she honed many of the skills that she uses in her current role: developing solid relationships, building trust with constituents, and telling compelling stories.
A child of teachers, Kim found herself drawn to the education field. She sought a series of informational interviews at Stanford and was hired as the Director of Major Gifts for the Stanford Athletics Department, raising funds for 900 student athletes in 36 sports. Over time, as college athletics started to become less amateur-oriented and attracted more corporate sponsorships, Kim longed to make more of a tangible difference. “Stanford is a freighter,” she says. “I knew it would keep barreling ahead with or without me. I wanted to be on a nimble sailboat—a place where I could help to steer it on its course.”
Kim sought out a high school that aligned with her values, and immediately fell in love with the culture at SA. When asked about her favorite part of working here, she says, “I am blown away by the amazing level of respect everyone has for one another, from the lunch line and Community Meeting to the classroom and the Admin corridor. It’s unlike any place I have worked before.”
In her free time, Kim is an athlete, a foodie, and a mom to two active children.
