Caitlin says, “I'm amazed by the independent, real-world projects and varied passions our students pursue, in addition to being highly involved in challenging academic classes and extracurricular activities.” She knows a thing or two about diverse interests: she’s a crafty mathematician, an avid knitter, a self-described “true crime nerd,” and she has an encyclopedic knowledge of Stephen Sondheim’s career. In short, she fits in perfectly with our community of glorious mash-ups.
As the child of a US diplomat, Caitlin lived in Warsaw and Buenos Aires when she was growing up. She always had a knack for numbers, and she majored in Math at Bryn Mawr with the intention to become a teacher. Her first position after college was a fellowship with Math for America, a program that supports new math teachers through graduate school and provides a professional learning network during four years of teaching in New York City public schools. “It was an extremely supportive environment, and I was both supported and challenged to grow professionally during my time in the program,” says Caitlin.
After five years at the Archer School for Girls in Los Angeles, Caitlin found her way to Sonoma Academy in 2018. “My favorite part of my day at SA is the moment in class when I stop talking and my students start doing,” she says. “I love to look up and see my windows and whiteboards full of figures, all the students working, debating, reasoning, and laughing together.”
